Essay on Conrad & Psychoanalysis: Starting and Completing a Draft

3-5 page college essay on How Psychoanalysis gives us fresh insight into Heart of Darkness
Due before midnight Sunday, Feb. 6
Plan your time well (as a simulation for next year as well)
At home and in class, work dillegently to complete a draft of the following (for further revising):
1. A narrow and interesting topic that includes both small concept from Frederick Karl (or Freud or Murfin) and a small focus on Heart of Darkenss.
2. Narrow your topic further
3. A clear working thesis, that you revise and revise.
4. A two-part working title, that is clever and gives the main idea
5. A rough outline you can follow or stray from
6. Your examples and quotes from Karl and Conrad (well integrated)
7. Development of your best point (not mere repetition or illustration)
8. A second and third and perhaps even fourth paragraph
9. An interesting conclusion that examines implications or connects to your own life
10. A proper works cited page, MLA headers, proper MLA parenthetical citations
11. If you have one, bring a laptop to class Wed, Thu., and Friday.
12. Share your ideas and difficultites with the instructor, the Writing Lab, or a buddy in class.
13. Finish early, not late on Sunday night.
This week, let's find, reread, and analyze intersections between Karl and Conrad.
Let's read Freud's outline, Dreams, and Civilization.
