Sr English Essay Schedule

Oct 8-12 Sr English
1.    Quizzes: on paper (or perhaps blog from in class) analyze one other passage.
Hint: College doesn't want you to give the 'right' answer (truth universally acknowledged), but to think for yourself, explore the topic and discover your own thoughts.
2.    D W Harding blogs and ideas: (sharing? circle?) Outline Hardings’ arguments, agree, disagree with some. Any implications for our study of the novel? Is it just comedic? Or is there a grain of truth about class, gender, and power?
3.    Next essay is due in stages, with due dates as we go along.
4.    Brainstorm ideas and explore concepts and relationships between CLASS, SOCIAL POWER, GENDER, MARRIAGE. Inquire, construct your own views, and apply them to the novel and to the current day. How is social power configured at Buckley? In Beverly Hills? In Southern California? In 1812 England? How do class and gender affect social power? Affect marriage? Does DW Harding apply here?
5.    Generate 2 or 3 questions you want to pursue and investigate as the heart of your next essay.
6.    Find one or two characters you will explore as examples.
7.    Find two or more passages you will explore as examples.
8.    Annotate your KNO text with your questions in mind--in class every day and at home. Choose a different color to annotate these themes in. Be ready to show your MyJournal and have it be comprehensive in answering the questions and exploring your character.
